Community Action Hosts Furniture Drive to Benefit Families in Need
Saturday, April 25 – 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (April 20, 2009) – Spring cleaning often means finding household items we no longer need. Community Action Partnership of Ramsey & Washington Counties is taking advantage of that by collecting furniture and household items to benefit area families in need on Saturday, April 25, in the parking lot at 450 Syndicate Street N. in Saint Paul.

“Spring is an ideal time to hold this drive since many of us are doing spring cleaning and find household items to donate,”
said Clarence Hightower, executive director of Community Action. “These donations mean people will have tables to eat
at, beds to sleep on and chairs to sit in.”

Items will be donated to Bridging, a local 501(c)(3) nonprofit providing the economically disadvantaged with quality
furniture and household items to help stabilize and improve their lives while effectively using community resources.
Bridging distributes donated items free to families who have been referred by one of more than 200 social service
agencies in Minnesota. This year Bridging will help more than 6,000 families make a house a home. In 2008, Bridging
served over 17,000 individuals.

“Desperately needed are good quality beds, tables, chairs, upholstered furniture and dressers”, says Ron Osterbauer,
Executive Director of Bridging. “In household items Bridging never gets enough dishes, towels, kitchen utensils, knives,
pots and pans, silverware, linens, etc.”

Donations are 100 percent tax deductible for individuals or organizations. Tax receipts will be provided on site during the
drive. Prospective donors are encouraged to read the list of acceptable item donations prior to arriving on site.
